Origins: As appears in colophon on fol.23b (p.48), copied by Ḥasan al-Zuhdī al-Arḍirūmī (Hasan Zühdi Erzurûmî, or Erzurumlu). Transcription finished 3 Rabīʻ I [?] 1227 [ca. 3 March 1812].

Binding: Pasteboards covered in marbled paper (blue, orange and white) with spine and turn-ins in red leather ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in a tinted (blue green) European laid paper with watermark partially visible "GIACOMO..." ; sewn in yellow thread, two stations ; endbands mostly gone ; in poor condition with spine leather cracking and lifting, moisture damage, staining, abrasion, and some ink burn ; currently housed in envelope.
Support: non-European laid paper with vertical laid lines spaced 10-11 laid lines per cm. with some sagging and curving ; well-burnished and quite smooth ; no chain lines clearly visible ; flyleaves in European paper with horizontal chain lines spaced 31 mm. apart and vertical laid lines spaced 12 laid lines per cm.
Decoration: Illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān) on fol.1b (p.4) consisting of rectangular panel with central gold cartouche and flanking floral accents in pink, red, yellow, and gold, entire piece framed in borders of pink and gold ; illuminated tailpiece on fol.23b (p.48) consisting of rectangular panel with an arabesque-like pattern in pink, blue, and red on a field of gold above an inverted triangular piece (carrying colophon accented by cloud bands and rosettes) flanked by elaborate floral decoration in pink, blue, white and green ; textual dividers in the form of elaborate illuminated rosettes ; written area framed in a series of gold bands with outermost red fillet ; text rubricated with Qur'anic text, keywords, overlining, etc. in red.
Script: Naskh ; Exquisite Ottoman hand ; partially seriffed with right-sloping head-serif on lām, ṭāʼ, ẓāʼ, etc. but free-standing alif serifless ; slight effect of slant to the left ; open and closed counters ; occasional swooping tails ; partially vocalized.
Layout: Written in 15 lines per page ; frame-ruled.
Collation: i, 2 V(20), II (24), i ; final folio ruled but left blank ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
Colophon: "Scribal," triangular, reads: "كتبه حسن الزهدي الارضرومي غفر الله له ولوالديه ولاستاذه امين في ۳ع [؟] سنة ۱۲۲۷ه م"
Dedication: As appears on fol.2a-2b (p.5-6) dedicated to the vizier Emin Paşa.
Explicit: "والله بكل شيء عليم يعني علمه احاط بكل شيء مجردا كان او ماديا متخلقا باخلاقه او غير متخلق بها والله اعلم بالصواب واليه المرجع والمآب"
Incipit: "الحمد لله الذي تجلى بذاته لذاته بالنور ولما سواه من الانبياء والكمل بنور النور ... وبعد فيقول العبد المفتقر الى الله الجليل سعد الله بن اسماعيل لما ترددت [؟] في زمان مديد في مطالعة التفاسير من اراء المتقدمين والمتأخرين في رسائلهم للاطلاع على اية النور بوجه منير فما وجت فيها شيئا ... ولما تم ترقيمها وتحريرها سميتها كشف الستور في تفسير اية النور ..."
