Engraved t.p. vignette. Some plates in final section signed by Antonio Pazzi, Filippo Morghen or Giuseppe Vasi. Etched head-piece signed by Duflos, another by Francesco Faraone Aquila, one tail-piece, five etched initials.
The metal plates used to print ill. for this ed. were in possession of the Calcografia Camerale by the time it appeared, as is proven by the inclusion of the two plates of the Noce Aldobrandini, and 14 others acquired in 1738 from the Stamperia De Rossi alla Pace. See Indice, where the present ed. is ascribed to the Calcografia.
Four sections of continuously paged descriptive text alternate with separately numbered sections of plates: XXIV plates on [12] leaves, XXXV plates on [18] leaves, XVI plates on [8] leaves, XIX [i.e. 20] plates on [28] leaves (8 of the plates double-page).
Translated from Italian ed. first published Rome, 1706. That ed. drew on Pietro Santi Bartoli's engravings of the Nasoni tombs that appeared in 1680, as well as his engravings for Antichi sepolcri overo mausolei romani et etruschi, published in 1698. To these Francesco Bartoli added engravings of his own. See Indice.
