Aegidius Sadeler made the engravings during his trip to Italy 1593-94. Port. of Domitian after painting by Bernardino Campi rather than Titian; Sadeler apparently designed the empresses himself. He issued the series in Prague ca. 1618, and his cousin Marcus reissued it there ca. 1640. See Wethey.
Engraved dedicatory leaf. Each port. has name of the Roman emperor or empress above and 8 lines of Latin verse below. All ports. signed by Aegidius Sadeler as engraver and Marcus Sadeler as printer. Ports. of the emperors additionally signed "Titianus inventor."
