- Summary
-
This study is part of an investigation ... of the mineralogic and chemical constitution of ancient argillaceous sediments. The Mississippian White Pine Group in eastern Nevada ... was selected for study as a representative of one important type, the thick, extensive, and relatively homogeneous bodies of Paleozoic argillaceous sediments. Geochemical methods are of particular value in connection with the description, stratigraphy, and geologic history of such bodies, especially those having few fossils and distinctive, dependable lithologic horizon markers. This study has two main aims: 1) to test a method for obtaining a reasonably detailed and quantitative description of the occurrence of selected trace elements in the White Pine Group, and 2) to apply the analytical results to the interpretation of certain aspects of the depositional history of these rocks.
