- Summary
-
A retelling of the tale of Fortunat, a poor man who one day meets the goddess of fortune. When given the choice, he chooses wealth rather than wisdom, health, or strength, and receives a magic purse which will always remain full of money no matter how often he takes some out. With it, he travels to many lands. In Egypt, he obtains a magic hat, which can transport its wearer anywhere he wants, and returns home to live a life of luxury. When he dies, he leaves the purse and hat to his two sons, but their foolish and reckless behavior leads to misfortune.
