- Summary
-
"From the time of the Treaty of Nemours in 1585 until the accession of Henry of Navarre to the throne in 1589 a "War of Pamphlets" occurred simultaneously with the religious wars. Louis d'Orleans here argues that if Navarre became King of France, then the Catholics of France would suffer the fate of those of England under Elizabeth. He therefore supports the St. Bartholomew Day Massacre and regards the Huguenots as enemies of the state. He believes that English Catholics will come to support their fellow French Catholics"--French Political Pamphlets Digital Collection, Brigham Young University.
