Each watercolour portrait is mounted on the recto of heavy cardstock of volume, with caption containing the date and reign at the bottom of each portrait.
Mounted on the final leaf of the second volume is two pencil sketches by Prince Albert himself, of himself, in costume.
Three plates in the second volume annotated by Queen Victoria.
2 volume set containing 125 watercolour portraits of people in various historical costumes from Europe, Turkey, and the Arab world. Books were prepared for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in order to help inspire them for their upcoming Bal Costumé held in 1842.
