Rebound: quarter-bound in modern red and black marbled paper over boards(rubbed; corners bumped); five raised bands on contemporary spine with gilt bordered floral tool in each compartment, and binder's title "pro verb" stamped blind in the second compartment from the top (rubbed); 44 blank leaves of paper added when rebound ; red sprinkled edges for older paper, blue sprinkled edges on the blank pages.
Many annotations have been carefully covered over with contemporary paper.
Collection of 42 Middle French proverbs and poetic responses written in contemporary hand in black ink, and with further poetic annotations written in a different contemporary hand; page numbers for first 92 pages in the same hand as the bulk of the text.
Copy in Rare Books and Special Collections is part of the J. Patrick Lee Voltaire Collection, acquired by the Library in 2013: item 355; acquired by Lee from Jean Touzot, Paris, in 2005 (see Lee inventory binder for this item number).
