Summary: The diary describes social, family and economic life in Montreal and Stanbridge, Québec from 19 November 1853 to 31 December 1854. There are also many comments about the weather and the author's health.

Marie-Angélique Birranger was the wife of Henri Desrivières (1804-1865), the son of François Amable Desrivières (1764-1830), principal heir of James McGill. Henri Desrivières was a seigneur of Montarville and a political figure in Canada Est who represented Verchères in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in 1841.
Written in a legible but rather careless hand in blue ink on grey ruled pages; some pages have the year written in the upper left corners; each entry begins with the day of the week, and the number and month of the date; a blank line or two separates the entries; clipping dated 24 April 1854 inserted between 92 and 93; single sheet of poetry and a clipping inserted between 150 and 151.
