Bound in contemporary half calf, marbled paper boards, upper cover and spine back wanting, worn lower cover detached, broken text block; in protective red cloth-covered drop front box (24 cm).
Written in ink in a beautifully clear hand, the stage directions in a paler ink; with some early pencilled notations and markings.
"Dramatis personae" (page 6, 1st group) include Mr. Palmer, Aickin, Blissett, Baddeley, Bannister, Webb, R. Palmer, Massey.
Epilogue (pages 121-123) attributed to David Garrick; first two lines: "The Critic's say and constantly repeat, That Woman acting Man's a silly Cheat."
"This comedy by George Colman was never printed. It was produced at the Haymarket in 1778. The present manuscript was a prompter's copy, having all the stage directions"--Clipping of bookseller's listing pasted in on blank leaf at front.
