Summary

This report considers the third in a series of experiments designed to examine the possibility of increasing the size of the visual form field by specialized training. In the present experiment an attempt was made to control subjects' learning to respond to the unique qualities of stimuli by including a greater diversity of stimuli. In addition, the effect of training predominantly one eye was investigated. There was no evidence of transfer to stimuli different from the training stimuli; in fact, the results support the writers earlier contention that much, if not all, of the improvement on training stimuli in the first two experiments was due to the subjects learning to respond to reduced cues. No differences in results could be traced to the proportion of training administered to each eye. No evidence was adduced to support the contention that improvement would follow a period of "setting in" of the training effects.
