520 ‡aThis report describes investigations performed to determine experimentally the validity of the time-independent aspects of a time-dependent elasto-plastic stress and strain analysis method for structures exposed to complex load and two-dimensional elevated temperature environments. Experiments, consisting of tests of long flat plates subjected to uniaxial loads and temperatures which varied in two directions, are described. These were specificially designed to evaluate the accuracy of the analysis method. Magnitude and duration of the test variables were such that the strains induced by loading were in the plastic range and appreciable thermal stress systems were induced. Significant creep strains were eliminated by short-time continuous loading. Experimental strains were compared with analytical strains calculated for conditions indentical with the tests. Within the range of test parameters selected, the degree of correlation achieved indicates verification of the time-independent portion of the analysis method.
