- Summary
-
The mass loss ration data (mass eroded divided by mass impacted) for spherical nosetip configurations of different nosetip diameters are compared. The data were obtained from impacts with water particles from 635 to 1,016 microns in diameter at velocities from 7,000 to 17,000 feet per second. The mass loss ration, recession rate, for the 0.75-inch-diameter nosetips is shown to be a factor of two greater than that for the ~3.5-inch nosetips.
