Illustrations: frontispiece plate with a medallion portrait and coat of arms of Ferdinand II. Archduke of Austria in allegorical setting, engraved by Dominicus Custos after Giovanni Battista Fontana, signed by the artists, and dated "ano. 82" (i.e. 1582) in the lower right corner. One hundred twenty five full page ill. on verso of text, each depicting a king or ruler, portrayed dressed in armor, standing inside a niche and surrounded by an elaborate architectural frame; all ill. are unsigned, engraved after drawings by Giovanni Battista Fontana (cf. Thieme-Becker).
Woodcuts: title page and text within elaborate woodcut border, armorial title vignette (coat of arms within two griffins).
"Mit Röm. Kays. Mayt. Gnad und Freyheit."
Date from imperial privilege statement by Rudolf II. (A1 verso): "... die vigesima nona mensis Ianuarii, Annno Domini Millesimo Sexcentesimo tertio ...".
Date from dedication by Jacon Schrenck von Notzing (A4 recto): "Geben zu Ynssprugg, den ersten Ianuarii im sechzehnhundert und andern Jar".
