De Laet's work was originally published in Dutch, 1625, under title "Nieuwe wereldt, ofte Beschryvinghe van West Indien." The Latin edition, appearing in 1633, was so largely altered as to be substantially a new work, of which the French edition of 1640 was simply a translation.
