"This journal includes the reaction to the conflicting reports of victory and defeat in the Battle of the Boyne as they were received in Dublin. This famous battle owed its subequent fame principally to the presence in person of both William, who remained in the center of the fighting throughout, and James, whose hasty fight from the battlefield aroused contempt on both sides."
