- Summary
-
The efficiency of the converter is computed with the least possible assumptions. The current density in the diode is assumed to be given by the Richardson-Dushman equation. The inter-electrode spacing is assumed to be very small, and the contribution of the thermal conductivity across the plasma to the diode losses is taken into account. The effects of thermal emissivity and inter-electrode heat transfer coefficient on the efficiency are investigated. Plots are given for maximum efficiency and other variables as functions of cathode temperature.
