520 ‡aTables of ablation of atoms from meteors are presented. The computations take account of the deceleration of the meteor through the atmosphere, thermal radiation from the meteor, and the heat capacity of the meteor. The effect of sputtering from the surface of the meteor is included. The fragmentation of meteors is discussed. The tables apply to meteors of radii between 5 x 10^-6 and 2 x 10^-1 cm; numerical values of the deposition of atoms per unit height interval from an altitude of 280 km down to an altitude of 70 km are given for meteors incident on the atmosphere at velocities between 10 and 70 km sec^-1.
