The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) receives federal funds through Section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act to help implement Illinois' Nonpoint Source Pollution (NPS) Management Program (Program). The purpose of the Program is to work cooperatively with local units of government and other organizations toward our mutual goal of protecting the quality of water in the state of Illinois by controlling NPS pollution. The program emphasizes funding for implementing cost-effective corrective and preventative best management practices (BMPs) on a watershed scale; funding for the demonstration of new and innovative BMPs on a non-watershed scale; and the development of information/education NPS pollution control programs.
