- Summary
-
A lightning warning set (LWS) consisting of a lightning stroke counter and ranging unit in combination with a field mill for measurement of the local potential gradient was tested at Cape Kennedy during the summer of 1970. The AN/FPS-77 weather radar was used to calibrate the range channels and to track storm centers for verification of the data recorded on the LWS. These data are analyzed for determination of criteria that can best be used to provide advance warning of electrical hazards at the station and also to indicate when the hazard has abated and normal activities can be resumed.
