A novel method is described whereby a high altitude aircraft can send emergency low frequency messages by dropping an automatic device containing a parachute, antenna, transmitter, and power supply. The expected physical characteristics and performance are discussed on the basis of laboratory and field tests. Possibilities for deployment by rockets and balloons are also considered. (Author).
