Plates consist of nature prints (in this case, prints made by intaglio electrotype plates produced from a mold of the object); most are printed in one color, with additional etched illustrations of details in the same color and lettering in black, some are printed in 2 (or rarely 3) colors à la poupée, and some include hand coloring; some appear to have tonal areas in aquatint
