- Summary
-
The successful performance of numerous tasks requires that energy be absorbed by cushionable material. The energy-absorbing capabilities of a cushion can best be determined from a dynamic stress-strain curve of that material. In the absence of sufficient dynamic data one must turn to static stress-strain curves for this information. Compiled herein, for various materials, are the energy-absorbing capabilities obtained from static curves. For several materials, dynamic curves are presented also. A comparison of the energy-absorbing properties of these materials can be made and, within limits, the design of cushions can be effected.
