- Summary
-
The Argonne Experimental Boiling Water Reactor (EBWR) achieved a power level of 20 MWt on December 28, 1956. Experiments conducted in 1957 and 1958 affirmed that the reactor was capable of operations at power levels up to 60 MWt. The reactivity of the operating core, Core 1, would not, however, permit prolonged operation at a power level substantially above 60 MWt. Core 1A, a modification of Core 1, was designed for operation near 100 MWt.
