First sentence: "As I have heard that a Pincushion, a Dog, a Halfpenny, and a Bank-Note, have each written a history of their adventures, I though to myself one morning, when I was left upon a writing desk, that it would be a convenient opportunity for me to imitate such examples, and that the memoirs of a Peg-Top might proof equally entertaining with any of the beforementioned histories."
