Summary

The hydrocarbons, 2-cyclopropyl-1-pentene, cis and trans 2-cyclopropyl-2-pentene, and 2-cyclopropylpentane were synthesized in high purity and their physical properties and infrared spectra were determined. The olefins were isolated from the dehydration products of methyl-n-propylcyclopropylcarbinol, which was prepared by the reaction of n-propylmagnesium bromide with methylcyclopropyl ketone. Catalytic hydrogenation of the 2-cyclopropentenes yielded 2-cyclopropylpentane.
