Summary

The following properties of the hydrocarbons were determined: melting point, boiling point, index of refraction, density, and net heat of combustion. The infrared spectra of 2-cyclopropylpropene, 2-cyclopropylpropane, and methylcyclopropyl ketone are presented.
The preparation of 2-cyclopropylpropene and 2-cyclopropylpropane from methylcyclopropyl ketone is described. The synthesis involves the reaction of methylmagnesium chloride with methylcyclopropyl ketone to yield dimethylcyclopropylcarbinol, the dehydration of the carbinal of 2-cyclopropylpropene, and the hydrogenation of the olefin to 2-cyclopropylpropane.
