- Summary
-
The safety aspects of these larger cores have been investigated, and it is concluded that increased core size, at least up to 2600 liters, does not adversely affect safety considerations; the hazards are no greater than those postulated in ANL-6271. Since this request is required because of the core-size limitations imposed by the SAR, and because not basic parametric or administrative changes other than those implicitly associated with core size are involved, the largest of the proposed cores has been analyzed.
Permission to operate the ZPR-6 and the ZPR-9 fast reactor critical facilities was initially granted on the basis of the Safety Analysis Report - Argonne Fast Critical Facility (ZPR-6), ANL-6271, herein called SAR.
