The California State Agricultural Society was incorporated May 13, 1854, and from March 1863 its directors constituted a Board of Agriculture. By act of April 15, 1880, the appointment of this Board was given to the Governor and the Society became a state institution. Although the name California State Agricultural Society was used until 1910, membership was discontinued in 1905. In 1911 the reports of the Society were succeeded by the Report of the State Board of Agriculture.
