The 10th edition of this "Spurious biography, not authorized by Crockett; attributed to James S. French"--Howes (Howes C898) (as cited by vendor). The first edtion appeared in 1833, Crockett responded with a 211 page book in 1834, A narrative of the life of David Crockett / written by himself. Philadelphia, E.L. Carey and A. Hart, 1834. Written to correct erroneous impressions produced by an unknown writer's "Sketches and eccentricities of Col. David Crockett," pub. in 1833. cf. Pref. But new edtions of this book continued, this 10th being published in 1837 only four years after the first.
