- Summary

Details the trial of Baroness Louise von Baumbach (née Geusau) who was accused of attempting to kill her husband of 20 years by poisoning his food and beer with phosphorus. This was reported to authorities by a servant who had worked in the household for 12 years. He and the cook had seen Louise drop something suspicious into her husband's beer on two occasions. The cook fished out the small ball and took it to the apothecary who declared it to be poison. Baron von Baumbach's relations with other women came to light during the trial so a motive of jealousy was suspected. The charge of poisoning could not be proved so the accused was set free after 7 weeks of pretrial detention.
