A history of the first bodies of troops to reach Washington after the President's call of April 15, 1861: the National Light Infantry of Pottsville, Pa., the Washington Artillerists of Pottsville, Pa., the Ringgold Light Artillery of Reading, Pa., the Logan Guards of Lewistown, Pa., and the Allen Infantry of Allentown, Pa. These organizations formed the nucleus of the 25th Pennsylvania Infantry, organized June 3, 1861.
