The "Nouvelle bibliotheque choisie" is usually attributed to Simon, nothwithstanding the statement in the "Avertissement" [p. v]: "Elle vient, au moins la meilleure partie, du M. Barat." Cf. A.A. Barbier, Ouvrages anonymes, III:543, who attributes it to Nicolas Barat. Paul Auvray, Richard Simon, 1638-1712, p. 157, concludes that "beaucoup de pièces soient de Simon, et il est probable qu'il en avait préparé l'édition avant de mourir."
