Instructions for binding with the Works appear on the lower paper covers of parts I and II. In part XIV, the publishers announced the completion of volume 1 of the present work, with the publication of an appendix containing text by W. Brockedon describing the subjects of the plates issued in the first eight parts. The second appendix, with text for parts IX to XVI was announced in part XX.
