520 ‡a"Only 13 of the 21 or so genera segregated from Stereum s.l. have taxa that occur in the Neotropics: Amylostereum (1 taxon), Aquascypha (2), Chondrostereum (1), Coralloderma (3, 1 comb. nov.), Cotylidia (3), Cystostereum (4, 1 comb. nov.), Cymatoderma (8, 2 comb. nov.), Hydnopolyporus (2, 1 stat. nov.), Inflatostereum (1), Lopharia s.l. (10, including 3 new combinations), Podoscypha (19), Stereopsis (3), and Stereum(6). The majority of these genera have only one to five species in the Neotropics, mostly found at higher elevations. Most species of Cymatoderma, Lopharia, and Podoscypha occur in the tropics of both hemispheres. Hydnopolyporus and Cotylidia are moved to an emended Aphelariaceae, and only Cymatoderma and Podoscypha are retained within an emended Podoscyphaceae. Coralloderma and Stereopsis appear to be members of the Gomphaceae, Chondrostereum is in the Meruliaceae, Cystostereum is in the Cystostereaceae, and Stereum is in the Stereaceae. Molecular studies join the majority of the species of Amylostereum with the Echinodontiaceae. The affinities of Aquascypha, Inflatostereum, and Lopharia s.l. are in doubt."--Publisher's description.
