Origin: As appears at opening on p.15, composition completed in the first part of Rabīʻ I 1122 [May 1710]. Lacks scribal colophon, though perhaps transcribed before the author's death in 1749. Paper certainly suggests 18th century and date of transcription for closing text provides a terminus ante quem of 1783. As appears in colophon on p.197, subsequent text listing the ṣaḥābah or Companions of the Prophet who took part in the battle of Badr copied by Ibrāhīm al-Ḥamāṣī ( ابراهيم الحماصي ) in Muḥarram 1198 [November-December 1783].

Binding: Pasteboards covered in tan leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in untinted laid paper ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped mandorla (filled with vegetal composition, compare Déroche class. OSd 3 and OSd 9), pendants and corner pieces ; design continues on envelope flap ; sewn in white thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in magenta and light yellow, good condition ; overall in fair condition though with considerable abrasion, some staining, etc. and ill-fitting (fore edge flap far too small and perhaps shrunk).
Support: European laid paper, mainly with 11 laid lines per cm. (horizontal), chain lines spaced 22-24 mm. apart (vertical), and watermark of grapes (raisin) with cartouche and crown above (see p.28, 54, 110, etc.), thin and transluscent, beige in color, lightly burnished ; another type with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal), chain lines spaced 21-22 mm. apart (vertical) and crown-star-crescent watermark (see p.156) ; some staining.
Decoration: Keywords, notabilia (side-heads), and section headings rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of red discs and three inverted commas.
Script: Naskh ; clear, somewhat stiff Syrian [?] hand ; partially seriffed with occasional right-sloping head-serifs on free-standing alif, deviating little from vertical, elongation of horizontal strokes, curvilinear descenders, some sweeping tails, pointing mainly in distinct dots though shīn marked with rightward-tilting inverted caret, alif maqṣūrah pointed as yāʼ, kāf mashqūqah preferred, lām-alif ligature often forming a closed loop ; list of the Companions who took part in the battle of Badr in a different hand.
Layout: Written in 15 and 9 lines per page ; for sections in verse written area divided to two columns ; frame-ruled.
Collation: iv, 8 V(80), VI+1 (93), II+1 (98) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes added flyleaves and inserts).
