Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 121. Hasan Chelebi's commentary on al-Mawaqif" ; "٣٦٢" in black ink on tail edge of text block.
Binding: Pasteboards faced in orange-tinted paper with edges / turn-ins in dark brown leather (paper-faced, leather-edged, framed binding) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in an untinted paper ; scalloped edge on inner joint of fore edge / envelope flap ; sewn in cream colored thread, two stations, mainly intact ; endbands lacking ; overall in fairly good condition ; repairs to hinges on envelope flap in red straight grain leather ; possibly recycled, with boards narrower than text block, fore edge flap ill-fitting (too wide for the current thickness of the text block), text block badly trimmed at tail.
Support: European laid paper of perhaps two types ; one type with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 25 mm. apart (horizontal) ; another type with 11 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 23 mm. apart (horizontal) ; burnished ; watermarks include lion passant guardant (see p.4, 6, 18, etc.) and "CV" or "GA" (see p.10).
Decoration: Keywords (قوله, etc.) and some notabilia rubricated ; some annotations in green ink.
Script: Naskh-nastaʻlīq (talik) ; several hands ; opening hand serifless with leftward slant, fairly straight ascenders, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, lām-alif mukhaffafah ; from p.49 a hand partially seriffed with head-serif on initial lām, inclination to the left, drooping descenders, curved ascenders, lām-alif mukhaffafah ; from p.129 a hand serifless with vertical strokes for paired dots, closed counters, shading, indication of tanwīn, final yāʼ of على mardūdah, lām-alif mukhaffafah ; from p.395 again opening hand.
