"This collection includes seventeen pieces selected from the United States Literary Gazette, among them the four not included in the 1826 volume of ʻMiscellaneous poems selected from the United States Literary Gazette,' but omitting ʻThe angler's song,' which is found in that volume. In addition there are included ʻThe burial of the Minnisink' from ʻThe Atlantic Souvenir,' 1827, ʻThe spirit of poetry,' from ʻThe Atlantic Souvenir,' 1828, and ʻTwo sonnets from the Spanish of Francisco de Medrano,' which were printed in the ʻCoplas de Don Jorge Manrique,' but omitted by the author when that poem was reprinted."--L.
