There are two groups of plates: Der Schiltträger (numbered 1-32) and Der Targaträger (numbered 1-15). Four plates in Targaträger group lack numbers: [3], [6], [10], and [12]. There are also four double plates, two in Schiltträger group (31 and 32) and two in Targaträger group (14 and 15).
"The illustrations were designed by the painter Adam van Breen ... On 8 December 1617 he sold the copperplates to the Hague printer and bookseller Aert Meuris, who wanted to publish them in book form.
