Note

The first report issued was that for 1872. In 1873 and 1874 short statements regarding Yellowstone park were included in the annual reports of the secretary of the interior. Apparently no report was printed in 1875. Beginning with 1876 the reports were issued annually, but none was printed in 1884. In 1916 the administration of the national parks was assigned to the superintendent of national parks, who in his report to the secretary of the interior for 1916, included excerpts from the reports of officers in charge of national parks. In April 1917, The United States national park service was organized, and since 1917 full reports of officers in charge of national parks will be found in the reports of the National park service.
