- Note
-
A comparison of the 2 issues of the latter shows the following difference: v. 4 (1826) has 4 p. l., including (1) Series title, (2) Dedication, (3) Advertisement, with Notice by Society on verso, (4) Contents; v. 5 has only 3 p. l., including (1) Series title, (2) Special title "History of the province of New-York ... (2) ... 1829". (3) Advertisement. Vol. 5 has running title "Smith's continuation of the history of New-York.".
The society is responsible for some confusion by printing 2 vols. of Collections numbered 4. The first v. 4 (1826) without special t.-p., bore the caption title "Continuation of the history of New-York", now first published. It was later decided to reprint the work entire, the new v. 4 (1829) being a reprint of "The history of the province of New-York from the first discovery to the year M.DCCXXXII", originally published 1757, while the "Continuation" was reissued as v. 5.
